Training and Public Appearances:
GIS engages many learning styles and provides a framework for all types of public health services.
Building capacity of GI system's users is always a foundation step towards having functional national GI systems. During year 2006, training activities took place at different levels for 30 individuals from Southern Sudan (MOH, WHO staff, and LF team), Yemen (MOH, TB, Polio, and WR staff), Somalia, teams at sub-national levels as well as onsite training for a WHO- country office data manager, UNRWA, (on-job-training for a team of three), and one day briefing at EMRO, for five individuals (from Tunisia, Djibouti, Yemen, and Bahrain.)
As part of introducing GIS concepts and success stories to the public health community, technical papers and presentations were introduced in many occasions and events such as the international Spatial & Temporal Clustering of Diseases and Risk Assessment in Public Health Symposium, Jan 2006, SA, The GCC Digital Health Conference, June 2006, SA, The Senghor University, Nov 2006, EG, and other regional events like the Regional Health Metrics Network workshop among others.
